Natural Bodybuilding with Marc David: The Steroid User Next Door

    Hey Marc,

This is my first post but I've been a long time fan. Great post I just though I'd take some time to spew out my opinion on steroids.

I've always been torn on how I feel about steroid use. My stance on whether I'd ever use them has been the same. I have no interest in using ANY supplement/drug that does not have significant research done on it. On top of that the risk vs the reward is not great enough for me to even consider.

But how I feel about other people using them is slightly different.

In general, when I use a supplement I based its effectiveness on studies. Due to the question of ethics there are no long term studies on the effect of steroids on the human body. Yes we do know of the side’s effects and the effects of when the steroids are abused but there is no clear cut evidence. From my own research for every 1 person who's reported horrible side effects there are 3 or 4 who have no problem with it. This is where my dilemma begins.

Year after year Alcohol is marked as the leading drug killer in North America. If we are so concerned about the dangers of steroids we should also be concerned with alcohol and other drugs that have not received the same attention. We should ban it from stores. Steroids are less glamorous and the media has spewed out a lot of bad information. So the general public outlook is a lot worst.

I'm starting to ramble so this is where I'll stop... I think steroid use in sport should be banned because it’s a rule but we should stop head hunting players who used it in the past it was a rule. If someone wants to use steroids recreationally I honestly don't have a problem with it.

I’m Canadian but I agree with your above statement with (North) Americans solving problems with a pill. This is something that isn’t going to end.

Ps. Sorry for the rambling. Next time I’ll collect my thoughts.

    Brian,

Great reply! You listed your thoughts and I didn't find it to be a ramble. I felt the article pointed out some other uses and reasons why people might take them beyond the obvious bodybuilding aspect.

I found the 14 year old who needed to be 170 lbs really fast for the 19 year old who "tried everything" to be sadder cases. The bodybuilder who's experienced with years under the belt is not even in the same boat as some 14 year old that is confused and immediately heads down the path without even being old enough to consider the ramifications.

When it comes to steroids... it's always pro sports or bodybuilders.

But there's many others who are taking or would take them for many other reasons than to get huge or be at the top of their game.

It's a different perspective. One I found interesting as I didn't think about it because it wasn't in my field of vision.

I won't argue about steroid use misleading some of our youngsters into abuse. I don't think it's about steroids, it's actually about how we use them. Some people actually need steroids for their health, has anybody mentioned about that?

I usually buy anabolic steroids, but then again, after I bought my first steroids, I went to my doctor and asked for advice on how to use such medical products. The doctor asked me if I'm sure about it and I go on a regular basis for him to screen my results just in case something goes wrong.

Personally, I would never use this stuff, but I don't want to judge someone who wants to buy legal steroids but I will say to them that the side effects I've seen can be really awful. A close one had to take a legal steroid called Cortizon and it's something that is contained by many drugs, and now he has developed the Aura Migraine among other things. So I agree that we should think more about our drug system.
